Dear Readers, I write this at end of a very busy week meeting with our Indonesian team and key ministry partners. I am so encouraged. Our Indonesian team is dedicated to our mission to make the life-changing wisdom of the Bible understandable and accessible to all. We have also been blessed with committed ministry partners who care deeply about helping people grow in their faith and understanding of scripture.
While this was my first trip to Indonesia as Our Daily Bread Ministries' CEO, this is my 25th time coming here. Over the years, I have traveled across the archipelago and have come to deeply love this country where I have developed deep friendships, a passion for the culture, and a passion for the food.
Our ministry was established here in 1998, during a very difficult time. Since then we have flourished along with the church during this season of peace and stability. Through your prayers and gifts, we have been able to extend our ministry to the most remote regions of Indonesia. As I reflect on our work over the last 24 years, I am reminded of Jesus' parable in Matthew 13:31-32:
God has allowed many to gather around our ministry here in Indonesia and it continues to grow and invite others. While the future may be uncertain, my prayer is that this window of time for Indonesia extends for many more years and at the same time we do as much as possible to plant seeds that will grow and be reaped in the future.
One way we are planting seeds for the future is the work we are doing to serve the next generation. If you are not aware, WarangSateKamu is a digital platform that targets 18-35 year olds by providing content that relates to the questions they are asking in a format with which they are familiar. However, rather than just give them content to consume, we invite them also to create content with us and to actively share it with others. Using our strong skills in editing and theological/biblical review, we ensure that whatever we post adheres to our standards. This initiative has generated more than 1 million active users and the numbers continue to grow. If you have young people in your life, I would encourage you to share this resource with them.
Thank you for your prayers and support that have made this and our many other initiative possible. In the coming months we will be sharing about another exciting initiative that will sow seeds in the remote and hard to reach areas of Indonesia. I hope you will partner with us in this new work.
I leave Indonesia with a full heart and anticipation for my next visit. Until then, I pray that God richly blesses you "in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens" (Eph 1:3).
In Christ,
Matt Lucas
